Festive Season, Stronger Food Safety

Festivals bring people together around food — from sweets and savouries to ghee, khoya, paneer, milk products and edible oils. But with the seasonal surge in demand comes a greater risk of adulteration and unsafe food practices.

To safeguard consumers, FSSAI has directed special food-safety surveillance and enforcement drives during the festive period, with particular attention to identified hotspots and sensitive

What will be done?

Special inspections & surveillance
Food Safety Officers and Designated Officers will intensify checks on food businesses, particularly in areas where the risk of adulteration is higher

Sampling & testing
Food samples will be collected and tested to check compliance with food-safety and quality standards.

Focused action at hotspots
Markets and locations considered sensitive or prone to food-safety violations will receive particular attention.

Food Safety on Wheels
Wherever available, mobile food-testing units will be strategically deployed in prominent markets and locations based on specific intelligence inputs. They will support on-the-spot testing, surveillance and consumer awareness.

Digital monitoring of the drive
Details of inspections, samples collected and their outcomes are required to be recorded on FoSCoS/FoSCoRIS, helping maintain traceability and transparency in enforcement activities.

The focus will be on foods that see a festive surge

Sweets • Savouries • Milk & Milk Products • Ghee • Khoya • Paneer • Edible Oils • Beverages • Namkeen & other region-specific festive foods

The objective is simple: prevent adulterated, counterfeit and unsafe food from reaching consumers and strengthen confidence in the food we buy and serve during the festive season.

Because festivals should add sweetness to our lives — not risk to our health.

Safe Food. Quality Food. Responsible Choices.
Let’s celebrate with confidence.
