FSSAI Waives Registration Fees for Anganwadi Centers

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a significant notification issued on [13-03-2025] to support Anganwadi Centers under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme. As per the new directive, FSSAI has waived of the registration fess for Anganwadi Centers, and they will be granted a registration certificate valid for five years.

This decision comes under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which mandates that all food business operators, including Anganwadi Centers, must obtain a license to operate. Anganwadi Centers play a crucial role in
providing supplementary nutrition to pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children up to six years of age, including those suffering from malnutrition.

To facilitate this process, FSSAI has introduced a new Kind of Business (KoB) category specifically for Anganwadi Centers under Food Services for Registration. This move aims to streamline the registration process and ensure that these centers
comply with food safety regulations without the financial burden of registration fees. The waiver of registration fees is applicable for both new registrations and renewals. However, fees paid for existing applications under process will not be refunded. A
user manual for applying for registration is available on the FoSCoS website.

This initiative by FSSAI underscores its commitment to ensuring food safety and supporting the nutritional needs of vulnerable populations through Anganwadi Centers
