FSSAI seizes adulterated Ghee

FSSAI Seizes 6,500 kg of Adulterated Ghee in Gujarat Under Special Surveillance Drive

August 21, 2025, Rajkot . The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has seized nearly 6,500 kg of adulterated ghee, valued at about โ‚น35 lakhs, from M/s Korova Milk Product Private Limited, a dairy unit in Rajkot, Gujarat. The enforcement action, carried out under FSSAIโ€™s Special Ghee Surveillance Drive, is aimed at curbing the adulteration of ghee with foreign fats and ensuring consumer safety.

FSSAI Inspection and Findings

During the initial inspection, FSSAI officials collected ghee samples from the Rajkot unit and forwarded them to an FSSAI-notified laboratory for testing. The analysis confirmed that the samples were sub-standard and adulterated with vegetable fat, in clear violation of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2011.

The concerned Food Business Operator (FBO) was duly informed of the results and granted one month to appeal by sending counter-samples to a referral laboratory. However, no appeal was filed within the stipulated period.

Follow-up Action

A follow-up inspection was conducted on August 20, 2025, during which all available stocks of raw materials and finished ghee products were seized. Fresh samples were also collected and sent for further analysis.

The Central Licensing Authority will now initiate further legal and regulatory action based on the final laboratory findings and ongoing investigations.

FSSAIโ€™s Stand

Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards food adulteration, FSSAI emphasized that every Food Business Operator must strictly comply with safety standards. The authority underscored that consumers have the right to safe, unadulterated food, and violations will be dealt with strictly under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act).
