FSSAI Engages OEMs to Standardize High End Laboratory Instruments
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has issued an invitation for draft specifications to Original Equipment Manufacturers and authorized suppliers for advanced laboratory instruments used in food testing. These include LC-HRMS (Liquid Chromatography High Resolution Mass Spectrometry), LC-IRMS (Liquid Chromatography Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry) and EA-IRMS (Elemental Analyzer Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry). FSSAI aims to gather specifications directly from manufacturing sources to build standard reference formats for these instruments. This will eventually support harmonized testing conditions across Indian laboratories.
FSSAI has set 1st December 2025 as the deadline for submission of editable specification documents. All submissions must be emailed to the designated FSSAI contacts. In addition, a presentation session will take place on 3rd December 2025 at FSSAI HQ in New Delhi. Accordingly, the Original Equipment Manufacturers and suppliers of high end equipment including LC HRMS, LC IRMS and EA IRMS are requested to register themselves through the official FSSAI registration link.
If both the manufacturer and supplier send specifications for the same model, FSSAI will refer to the manufacturerโs version. FSSAI will review all submitted documents and may request clarification if needed. Every submission will undergo a scientific and technical examination before final consideration.
This initiative supports Indiaโs broader effort to strengthen laboratory infrastructure for food quality and safety. LC-HRMS delivers ultra precise molecular mass analysis for chemical identification. LC-IRMS and EA-IRMS support stable isotope ratio testing, which helps detect adulteration in honey, milk, spices, nutritional products and oils. As a result, standardized technical expectations will improve consistency of test results across laboratories involved in regulatory assessment.
