FSSAI e-commerce compliance requirements are becoming stricter for food businesses operating through online platforms. Following the FSSAI meeting held on 25 June 2026, e-commerce FBOs must comply with requirements relating to FSSAI licence display, FoSCoS facility mapping, online product information, traceability and food safety. Certain online expiry and batch-detail requirements are expected to take effect from 1 October 2026, subject to final Food Authority approval.
1. On Receipts & Invoices
Must display your FSSAI License/Registration Number on all customer receipts, invoices, and cash memos.
2. Warehouse & Facility Mapping (FoSCoS Portal)
- Requirement: Map all backend facilities (warehouses, storage units, dark stores, pick-up points, and cloud kitchens) on the FoSCoS portal.
- How to Add: Enter the facility’s License/Registration number under Update Warehouse Details in your FoSCoS login to auto-fetch details.
- Warehouse Approval: The owner of the storage facility must log into their own FoSCoS account (Dashboard → Pending Actions → Accept Warehouse Details) and select Accept before it is added to your operational list. You can view or delete mapped facilities at any time.
3. Online Product Listings & Display
- Images: Upload clear photos showing all sides of the actual product packaging/label. Images must accurately represent the product.
- Descriptions: Product names and descriptions on the platform must match the physical packaging declarations exactly.
- Claims: Misleading, false, or unverified health/nutritional claims are strictly prohibited. Never use the term “100%” in labels, promos, or titles.
- Special Categories: Listings under categories like Organic or Vegan require valid, verified certificates before they can be displayed.
- Expiry Details: Show the Expiry/Use-By Date, Shelf Life, and Batch Number clearly on product pages before purchase (Mandatory w.e.f. October 1, 2026).
4. Quality Control & Safety Obligations
- Maintain complete product traceability records.
- Monitor food safety practices across seller partners, cloud kitchens, and delivery chains to prevent contamination.
- Immediate Delisting: Delist any non-compliant or non-conforming food products immediately.
- Set up effective mechanisms to handle and resolve consumer food safety grievances promptly to avoid legal and penal action under the FSS Act.
