On 29.11.2024, FSSAI issued an order revising food safety protocols by adding specific food products under high-risk categories following the removal of mandatory BIS certification.
Amendments to the RBIS Policy:
- Category 14.1: Non-Alcoholic (Soft) Beverages
- Packaged drinking water and mineral water are exclusively classified as high-risk under this category.
- New Provision Inserted (Para II):
- Inspection of manufacturers/processors for food products (which previously required BIS certification before the Amendment Regulations, 2024, dated October 17, 2024) is now mandatory before granting a license or registration.
- Inspection Frequency: At least once per year.
