The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a clarification regarding the testing of in-shell nuts, such as almonds, by its notified food testing laboratories.
It was observed that different standards were being applied to in-shell nuts, causing confusion among stakeholders. To address this, FSSAI has instructed all notified laboratories to test in-shell nuts strictly as per sub-regulation 2.3.47 (5) of the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations.
This clarification ensures uniformity in testing and compliance with established regulations. The notification has been circulated to all Food Safety Commissioners and FSSAI-notified laboratories to ensure
adherence.
With this move, FSSAI aims to streamline food testing procedures, eliminate inconsistencies, and enhance food safety compliance for in-shell nuts in India.
